Every place has a history, but none as singular as The Capital Hotel. Our rich, colorful heritage is the backdrop for our signature Southern hospitality. The Capital Hotel opened as a smashing success in 1876. For years, The Capital has been Arkansas's leading hotel and unofficial political headquarters. Certainly, laws were made at the State Capitol. But the deals were struck at The Capital Hotel. We've hosted prestigious guests such as former President Ulysses Grant in 1880. Legend has it that The Capital Hotel's unusually spacious elevator was installed to accommodate President Grant's desire to ride his horse up to his room. During World War I, our grand lobby and banquet rooms were alive with dances and parties. After a brief closing, The Capital Hotel was reborn in the early '80s, leading the revitalization of downtown Little Rock. Now meticulously restored, the superb hotel is cited for its historical significance as one of the country's first examples of cast iron facades. The Capital Hotel is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A Captivatingly Capital Experience. Welcome to The Capital Hotel, Arkansas's premier hotel.
